WRBHA 2023 Alberta Provincial Championships
Thirty-nine Alberta ball hockey teams will assemble in Calgary next weekend as the annual WRBHA Provincial Championships are set to get underway with games beginning as early as Thursday night.
The Men's Division 1 is the only division seeing action Thursday night. The CGY Phantoms and CGY Pitbulls will square off in Calgary, while the EDM Savages and EDM Team Pending will actually open their tournament up in Edmonton. The remaining six division will see their first action starting Friday night at 5 pm with four different arenas (Huntington Hills, Max Bell Arena, Triwood Arena, and Jack Setters Arena) each hosting five games.
Here is a quick breakdown of the format for each division:
Womens Division B - Asylum WBHE, Havoc WBHE, Storm WBHE, Calgary Tune Squad SL, Pumas SL, Vipers SL
- 6 teams, 2 divisions (EDM Division/CGY Division)
- 3 round robin games (all vs oppositive division)
- top 2 from each division qualifies for playoffs (EDM #1 vs EDM #2, CGY #1 vs CGY #2)
Womens Division C - Assassins WBHE, Dumpling Chase SL, Lockdown WBHE, Stilettos WBHES
- 4 teams
- 3 round robin games
- top 3 qualify for playoffs (2 vs 3, 1 bye)
Womens Division D - Gumballs SL, Narwhals SL, Natural Disasters SL, Wildcats SL, Chix with Stix WBHE
- 5 teams
- 4 round robin games
- top 4 qualify for playoffs (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3)
Mens Tier 1 - Blue Steel SL, Savages BHE, Phantoms SL, Pitbulls SL, Team Pending BHE
- 5 teams
- 4 round robin games
- top 4 qualify for playoffs (1 vs 4, 2 vs 3)
Mens Tier 2 - Full Metal Jacket SL, Killer Bees BHE, Knowlton Gnashers BHE, Medicine Hat Outlaws MH
- 4 teams
- 3 round robin games
- top 3 qualify for playoffs (2 vs 3, 1 bye)
Mens Tier 3 - Blackouts BHE, Blazers SL, Croatia Bulldogs SL, Desi Hit Squad SL, Dirtsnakes SL, Redline BHE, Rink Rats SL, Ball Hogz SP
- 8 teams, 2 divisions (A Pool/B Pool)
- 3 round robin games (within pool)
- top 2 in each division qualify for playoffs (1A vs 2B, 1B vs 2A)
Mens Tier 4 - Balls BHE, Cobras GP, Jacked Rabbits SL, Party Bus SL, Rude Boys SL, Silver Kings BHE, Soldiers BHE
